Health Benefits

Blueberries: Blueberries are loaded with prebiotic fiber to provide your beneficial gut flora the nutrition they need. Wild blueberries in particular are known for raising GI tract Bifidobacteria numbers and supporting overall gut health.

Flaxseeds: The soluble fiber found in flaxseeds allows more water to bind to stool which increases its bulk and results in softer stools. This is useful for preventing constipation and can help for those who have IBS.

Kale: Kale also contains prebiotic fiber which enhances digestion. That along with its water content reduce constipation and promote regularity and a healthy digestive tract. It also contains B vitamins, and vitamin C, which promotes iron absorption. These are essential for the release of energy from food.

Cinnamon: Cinnamon’s powerful anti-fungal properties may be effective in stopping Candida overgrowth in the digestive tract. It is also said to provide relief for indigestion, gas, heartburn, nausea and stomach cramps.

Serves 1

INGREDIENTS:

4 oz nut milk (coconut milk will make it thicker but I also like to use almond milk)

4 oz filtered water

1/2 cup frozen wild blueberries

2 tbs ground flaxseeds

1 cup kale (I love organic purple kale)

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 tbsp hemp seeds

1 tbsp chia seeds

DIRECTIONS:

1. Combine all of the ingredients starting with liquids in a blender (I use my Vitamix) and blend until smooth.

2. Pour the smoothie into a bowl.

3. Add the chia seeds, hemp seeds, and shredded coconut for topping.

*Feel free to switch it up with your favorites - a dollop of nut butter on top is always tasty! :)
